Belinda's Profile
I have been drawing, painting or crafting for as long as I can remember. When asked in Grade 7 what I wanted to be when I grew up, I said "something in the art world". I was lucky enough to have two brilliant art teachers at school, namely Miss Elizabeth Bartie at Wynberg Girls Junior and Miss Nerina de Villiers at Bergvliet High.
I went on from school to do Graphic Design at the Cape Technikon where I got my National Diploma in 1994. From there I worked at a Housing company doing all their marketing, advertising and signage. After working there for 3 years I decided to go on my own doing graphics and wedding invitations as a friend once said to me every little acorn grows into a big tree.
My art studio really started because I met a lady called Rhea at some fabric painting classes that I was attending for fun. She asked me to teach her shading privately, which I really enjoyed and my realization that I could teach grew from there. A beautiful building in Chelsea Wynberg was available and so began Acorn School of Crafts in 1998. From there I moved to Plumstead and now I am in a beautiful house in Bergvliet.
I currently have approximately 48 students who come to the studio weekly spread across 6 classes.
I thoroughly enjoy teaching and thrive on the challenge each new project brings that my students embark on. Not one person tackles even the same project in the same style or manner, so each artwork turns out unique.
My personal passion is creating mixed media art installations. I have become well known for steampunk art and have had the pleasure of creating for Truth Coffee Roasting at 36 Buitenkant street as well as Steam Restaurant in Stellenbosch at 5 Ryneveld Road.
